Meguiars Ultimate Compound
You will get the greatest satisfaction out of detailing your own car, when it has got that mirror finish and you can say I done it myself when your friends ask. You don’t really have to tell them how easy it was because you knew were to start and more importantly what to use. A good product to start with is Meguiars ultimate compound.
If your car like so many others sits outside all year round then it is likely oxidized and maybe has a scratch here or there, I know mine does. First off you need to wash your car with a good car shampoo ( Meguiars has the answer for you in that Dept. to ) make sure your car is free of all dust, dirt, road tar etc. and dry. Then you want to apply Meguiars ultimate compound as this takes out all the swirls, oxidation and scratches. Make sure you are in the shade or in the
cooler part of the day and not in direct sunlight and apply the compound in a circular motion, it will take a little elbow grease but it’s worth it.
When applying the compound do small parts say a fender then the hood and so on that way the compound won’t be left on the car to long especially if it is fairly warm out. Once you have rubbed the compound in and buffed off the entire car don’t be disappointed if it’s not got the shine you were expecting because now the car is ready for it’s shine.
The next step is to apply a good polish, surprise, surprise Meguiars has that to. Pick a good polish that is made for the finish on your car, enamel, clear coat etc. The polish will bring out the shine and you will start to see how all this work is really worth it. Speaking of worth it just think what all this would cost at a professional detailers and you would not have the satisfaction of being the one responsible for the beautiful looking car.
I suppose you thought that you were all finished, well if you want a really good long lasting job and a really good showroom shine you should now apply a coat of wax, don’t leave yet as this is much easier than the other two and protects all the hard work that has just been done. The wax seals up the surface and protects your cars paint. A lot of Meguiars wax’s are in a spray bottle that you just spray on and polish with a nice clean dry cloth, not near the effort of first using
the compound and then again rubbing the polish in and again off. Now we get protection and a greater shine for all the hard work we have done so far.
You have now put a lot of work into making your car look it’s best and one that you will be proud to drive and it’s a lot less money than a paint job.
